My Morning Jacket Boston reviews
My Morning Jacket, 4/28
My Morning Jacket's 4/28/16 concert at Revention Music Center in Houston had to be the best live show I've seen in years. They had appeared at the same venue (then called Verizon Theater) in 2012, showcasing music from their album "Circuital." While that was a solid show, this one went above and beyond. This time around they were in support of their latest, "The Waterfall". The set included most of the songs from the new album along with past MMJ favorites and two Prince covers, "Sign O' the Times" and a knockout "Purple Rain." Jim James was clearly in fine form, a hooded figure moving across the stage and exhorting the crowd to a collective high. Guitarist Carl Broemel was fantastic - stepping out in classic rock guitar style with several blistering solos. The band was extremely tight and songs were well paced. Really can't say there was a lull - great from start to finish.
